Generation – Development Projects

ONSHORE WIND

A wind generation portfolio is being actively developed in the UK and Ireland. In addition to the operational wind farms (Barlockhart Moor, Blantyre Muir, Carsington, Crimp, Sober Hill, Scotia/Craigengelt, Flimby and Cairnborrow), we are developing further renewables opportunities.

On March 26, 2014, ENGIE (formerly GDF SUEZ) acquired West Coast Energy, a leading independent wind energy developer, based in Mold. This acquisition gave ENGIE an opportunity to increase its presence in renewables in the UK via high quality projects.

In recent years ENGIE and West Coast Energy enjoyed a very successful business relationship in developing a portfolio of wind projects. This transaction was a natural step that strengthens both companies.

The transaction combined a leading wind developer with an excellent track record and the world’s largest independent generation company. West Coast Energy has become the core development business for ENGIE onshore wind activities in the UK and an important source of expertise for other renewable energy initiatives.

SOLAR

In addition to its onshore wind portfolio, ENGIE recently developed the 5 MW Capel Grange Solar Park. This site, in Kent, is ENGIE’s first ground mounted solar asset in the UK. We are also currently seeking to develop a solar generation portfolio in Ireland.

OFFSHORE WIND

ENGIE has a 23.3% stake in the Moray East offshore wind farm, which has a 15 year Contract for Difference (CfD) for the delivery of 950 MW of offshore wind generation.  The project, to be constructed at a site off the north east coast of Scotland, is due to become operational in 2022.
