North Ridge High School
Construction of a new single storey contemporary extension at the rear of a fully operational special school, providing new teaching facilities for pupils aged 11-16 years inclusive.
Key Features of the Project:
- This was one of eight Basic Need expansion projects ENGIE undertook for Manchester City Council over a period of four years.
- Minimising disruption to pupils and staff is always important on an operating school site but even more so when the pupils have special needs. In recognition of this, our team developed the programme in full collaboration with the school, ensuring that all noisy and dusty work was carried out outside of school operating hours.
- Access to the site was very challenging but this was overcome by negotiating access via a bridal way at the rear of the site. This allowed the team to further eliminate distraction to pupils and create a totally segregated work zone, ensuring health and safety at all times.
- Daily meetings were held on site with the Headteacher and we arranged regular site tours for pupils so they could see what was going on and feel positively engaged in the project.
“The quality of the build and finish is to a high standard and the school is very happy with the outcome, it is a credit to the team. The calm and flexible approach and willingness to engage with the school made what could have been a difficult build, fraught with problems and issues, a well-controlled, quality scheme’’
