Time to switch to simpler, smarter metering
As part of the UK Government’s commitment to reducing energy use and meeting carbon-reduction targets, it has mandated that energy suppliers must make all reasonable efforts to install Smart meters or Advanced Meter Reading (AMR) equipment in all businesses and homes by 2025.
To support the roll-out, the energy industry is setting annual targets for all suppliers for Smart and AMR meter installations up to the end of 2025. ENGIE’s 2022 target is to install 362 gas meters and 1,148 electricity meters.
We are excited about the benefits this transition will bring to our customers, as it means an end to manual meter reading and estimated bills. Meter readings will be transmitted automatically to your supplier, so bills are always based on actual consumption.* It also makes the process of switching suppliers simpler than ever. The latest generation of Smart meters (SMETS2) can communicate with all suppliers, so there will be no interruption to your remote meter readings if you change supplier.
Smart and AMR meters can allow you to see exactly how much energy your business is using, and enable more accurate bills, helping to support your energy-efficiency efforts and reduce your energy bills.
Which type of meter is right for your business?
If you are a Microbusiness then a Smart meter is for you.
A Microbusiness consumes less than 732,000 kWh per year or has an electricity meter in profile class 1-4.What is a Smart meter?
If you are a larger business then an AMR meter is for you.
AMR meters suit businesses with a greater energy need. If your annual gas consumption is typically greater than 732,000 kWh or if your electricity meter profile class is between 5-8 then an AMR meter is most suitable for you. Smart meters are also available. What is an AMR meter?
Meter Data Privacy FAQs
What do we do with your meter data?
We use the data from your electricity or gas Smart/AMR meter to produce accurate bills.
If anything changes about the way we handle or use your data, we will inform you.
What data do we take?
