UK Power Networks

UK’s best-in-class distribution operator, now part of ENGIE.

About UK Power Networks

In 2026, ENGIE completed the acquisition of UK Power Networks (UKPN), the company responsible for distributing electricity to millions of homes and businesses across London, the South East and the East of England. The acquisition marks a significant expansion of ENGIE in the UK, which become the Group’s largest market outside of France.

UKPN owns and operates the cables, substations and infrastructure that distribute electricity from the transmission network to homes and businesses across its service area. As the UK’s largest electricity distribution network operator, UKPN serves 8.5 million customers across three licensed networks. The business employs 6,500 people and distributes 71TWh of electricity each year.

UKPN is ranked no.1 by the Ofgem, the energy Regulator, among the UK’s electricity distribution network operators over the 2015-2023 period across all the main performance criteria.

Enhanced electricity value chain

With UKPN, the UK becomes ENGIE’s second‑largest country of activity globally. The acquisition extends the Group’s presence into regulated electricity distribution and strengthens its position across the electricity value chain, which in the UK already encompassed renewables generation, flexible power storage, energy management and B2B customer supply.
